Botany and Bicycles
See below for a fun and educational event on the waterfront coming up:
What: Bloom, Botany and Bikes
When: Sunday, July 16th, 10am - 1pm
Where: Starting from Benning Rd NE and Anacostia Dr NE
What happened to the efforts to get a silkworm industry started in DC? Why do we have lotuses in DC? Learn about where history and botany meet on the third of a series of guided history tours with the Washington Area Bicycle Association's DC Trail Rangers and the National Park Service. Ride the newest section of the Anacostia River Trail through wetlands, woods and meadows, including a pitstop at Kenilworth Aquatic Garden to check out the blooming lotuses and water lilies - the only national park dedicated to growing aquatic plants.
Please be prepared to be outside for a few hours. A working bicycle and helmet are required, and a water bottle strongly encouraged. WABA will bring extra water and snacks, and a few backup helmets for folks who need one.
The tour is free although space is limited. Register at waba.org/botany
