APACC Vision, Values and Goals
We envision a community-led, equitable redevelopment of the Anacostia River parks and adjacent neighborhoods in Wards 7 and 8, as well as a thorough cleanup of the Anacostia River. Through this process, we will foster the growth of a thriving, diverse, and sustainable community that actively accepts and takes ownership of the challenges and opportunities along this cherished water source to improve the lives and livelihoods of both current and future residents.
The communities near the river, especially in Wards 7 and 8, will inform and actively participate in the work of the Anacostia Park and Community Collaborative. As such, we will necessarily prioritize the perspectives and needs of residents and other local stakeholders in planning activities and considering the impacts of our actions.
Goals & Objectives
- Enhance the quality of life of residents and other stakeholder in communities near the river by improving access to economic opportunities, affordable housing, wellness and healthcare, and parkland and other outdoor recreation opportunities.
- Enhance environmental justice in communities east of the river by cleaning up the Anacostia River and the broader local environment, including enhancing climate resiliency for the long-term health of the community.
- Redevelop welcoming, usable, activated Anacostia River-front parks that physically and emotionally connect communities near the river.
- Increase our own capacity, organizationally and individually, to understand and connect with the Wards 7 and 8
